The Whole Story (sort of)

I thank you, deeply, for your patronage to this representation of my minds wanderings. I wish you well on your journey through it and beyond it. Not all you see here is directly from me. In fact, most of it will not be (as seems to be the nature of Tumblr in general). Nonetheless, I hope that my postings and musings and rantings are to your amusement.

One-Ton Feathered Dinosaur Found: Fluffy and Fierce
A distant cousin of the Tyrannosaurus Rex this giant feathered dinosaur is the largest feathered animal known to have lived. That Yutyrannus might have needed feathers for insulation is surprising as large-bodied animals typically retain heat well. It is not really known what these creatures needed their feathers for but it is possible that this dinosaur may have used it’s feathers to keep its nest eggs warm or as a sexual display or camouflage.

Brain Wiring A No-Brainer?

Using the new Connectom scanner, scientists have captured this fascinating 3-D image of a whole brain. This isn’t the cool bit, just wait for it. The inner structre that has been found shows that the brain is wired in parallel wires which only intersect at 90 degree angles.
“Getting a high resolution wiring diagram of our brains is a landmark in human neuroanatomy,” says NIMH Director Thomas R. Insel, M.D. This amazing advance is expected to aid development in treatments for neural disorders and diseases.

Unprotected Coral Harbor Herpes
Herpes infection threatens thousands of students flocking to tropical beaches this spring break. At the same time, offshore from those tropical paradises, coral reefs may face an even greater threat from herpes viruses.
